What this amendment would do

SA 6670, submitted by Mr. Thune, aims to add a section to bill S. 4784 to authorize money for the defense of strategic assets.

The purpose of this amendment is to:

  • Authorize $50,000,000 for the Department of the Air Force to be used for counter unmanned systems relating to the defense of strategic assets.

To pay for this, the amendment reduces funding from three other areas:

  • $5,000,000 is reduced from BMD enabling programs.

  • $5,000,000 is reduced from special programs--MDA.

  • $40,000,000 is reduced from the Atomic Energy Defense Activities, National Nuclear Security Administration, Naval Reactors, 14-D-901 Spent Fuel Handling Recapitalization Project, NRF.
