What this amendment would do
SA 6426, submitted by Ms. Cortez Masto, aims to add a section on Space Control and Space Superiority Readiness to bill S. 4784.
The purpose of this amendment is to address the following:
-
Findings: It establishes that the space domain is critical to warfighting and deterrence, and that the U.S. must be able to achieve space control during a conflict with the People's Republic of China.
-
Capabilities: It requires the Secretary of Defense to increase the Space Force's ability to perform simulation, modeling, and wargaming for peer conflict scenarios in space.
-
Training: It directs the Secretary of Defense to create training programs for space operators regarding the procedures, techniques, and tactics needed for space control operations.
-
Reporting: It requires the Secretary of Defense to provide an unclassified report to Congress within 180 days of the Act's enactment. This report must cover Chinese commercial space capabilities and how they could be used for military applications.
