What this amendment would do

SA 6422, submitted by Ms. Cortez Masto, aims to add a section titled "Protection of Ruby Mountains, Nevada" to bill S. 4784.

The purpose of this amendment is to withdraw specific federal lands from all forms of operation under mineral leasing laws. The changes include:

  • National Forest System Land: Withdrawing approximately 309,272 acres in the Ruby Mountains subdistrict of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

  • National Wildlife Refuge System Land: Withdrawing approximately 39,926.10 acres in the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, though noncommercial refuge management activities by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service are excepted.

Both provisions apply to existing lands and any land in those areas acquired by the United States after the Act is enacted. Maps for these areas will be available for public inspection in the Forest Service and United States Fish and Wildlife Service offices.
