What this amendment would do

Mr. Schatz submitted amendment SA 642, which proposes adding a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to congressional oversight to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025.

The purpose of this amendment is to allow the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to revise allocations and make adjustments for legislation related to congressional oversight.

Specifically, it aims to allow adjustments for legislation that includes oversight of Federal agencies or requires Federal agencies to remove employees who are active in, or members of, specific groups.

  • Extremist organizations included are the Proud Boys, Patriot Front, any anti-American militia, or any other White nationalist, neo-Nazi, or neo-Confederate organization.

The amendment requires that any such legislation would not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
