What this amendment would do

Look, as folks who want to keep an eye on our elected officials and make sure they are working for us honestly, we need to know what our leaders are up to. Mr. Schatz submitted SA 641, which proposes adding a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to congressional oversight to the concurrent resolution.

To put it in plain English, this amendment aims to clear a path so Congress can pass laws or do oversight regarding people who work in the Executive Office of the President, including special Government employees. Specifically, it focuses on requiring these individuals to disclose conflicts of interest documentation.

  • The amendment allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise allocations and make adjustments for legislation related to this oversight.
  • There is a catch to keep our wallets safe: any legislation or action taken using this fund would not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
