What this amendment would do

This amendment, submitted by Mr. Cornyn and Ms. Cortez Masto, aims to add a new section to the Public Health Service Act focused on concussion and traumatic brain injury among public safety officers.

The purpose of this addition is to require the Secretary, through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to:

  • Collect and share information regarding traumatic brain injury and concussions, including medical information on diagnosis and treatment, personal protective equipment recommendations, and evidence-based practices.

  • Spread this information by updating the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website and using other methods to reach medical professionals, public health professionals, public safety employers, employee representatives, mental health professionals, patients, families, and higher education institutions.

  • Collaborate and support efforts by consulting with the mentioned groups to ensure the information is useful and by supporting public and private efforts to create model guidelines and practices through contracts, grants, or cooperative agreements.
