What this amendment would do

SA 6277, submitted by Mr. Kaine, aims to change the timelines for removing United States Armed Forces under the War Powers Resolution.

The amendment proposes the following changes to Section 5(b) of the War Powers Resolution (50 U.S.C. 1544(b)):

  • Change "Within sixty calendar days" to "Within ten calendar days".

  • Change "extended by law such sixty-day period" to "extended by law such ten-day period".

  • Change "Such sixty-day period shall be extended for not more than an additional thirty days" to "Such ten-day period shall be extended for not more than an additional ten days".
