What this amendment would do

SA 6113, submitted by Mr. Husted and Mr. Whitehouse, is an amendment to bill S. 4784. This bill authorizes appropriations for fiscal year 2027 regarding the Department of Defense, military construction, and Department of Energy defense activities.

The purpose of this amendment is to change the definition of a production facility within Section 11 v. of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954.

It aims to add an exclusion to the definition by inserting language that includes:

  • Separating isotopes of uranium or enriching uranium in the isotope 235.
  • Reprocessing spent nuclear fuel in a manner that does not separate plutonium from other transuranic elements.
