What this amendment would do

SA 6050, submitted by Mr. Padilla, aims to address firefighter staffing shortages at military installations.

The amendment proposes the following changes to the bill:

  • It allows the Secretary of Defense to provide compensation for Department of Defense firefighters that is competitive with surrounding local jurisdictions to help with recruitment and retention.

  • It amends Section 2465 of title 10, United States Code, by removing the word "firefighting or" from the section heading and subsection (a).
