What this amendment would do
SA 6032, submitted by Mr. Marshall, aims to add a section to bill S. 4784 that prohibits the display of flags other than the flag of the United States.
The purpose of this amendment is to stop any flag that is not the flag of the United States from being flown, draped, or displayed on the exterior or in the hallways of a public building.
For this amendment, public buildings include:
- Buildings as defined in section 3301(a) of title 40, United States Code.
- Military installations.
- United States embassies or consulates.
There are specific exceptions to this prohibition. The following flags may still be displayed:
- National League of Families POW/MIA flags.
- Flags representing the nation of a visiting diplomat.
- State flags representing a member of Congress, located inside or outside their office.
- Unit or branch of the Armed Forces flags at military installations.
