What this amendment would do
SA 5873, submitted by Mr. Daines, aims to add a new section to bill S. 4784 regarding the termination of the application of title IV of the Trade Act of 1974 for certain countries.
The purpose of this amendment is to allow the President to:
- Determine that title IV of the Trade Act of 1974 should no longer apply to a covered country.
- Proclaim the extension of nondiscriminatory treatment (normal trade relations treatment) to the products of that covered country.
Once the extension of nondiscriminatory treatment is effective, title IV of the Trade Act of 1974 will stop applying to that country.
A covered country is defined as any country except for Belarus, Cuba, and North Korea.
