SA 5793, submitted by Mr. Padilla, aims to add a new section to the bill that prohibits the use of funds for immigration enforcement activities targeting pregnant, postpartum, or lactating women and their infants.

The amendment specifically seeks to ban:

• The detention of these women for longer than 72 hours.
• The use of electronic or physical restraints.

There is one exception to these rules: the limitations do not apply if a woman is individually determined to be a serious flight risk.
