What this amendment would do
SA 5778, submitted by Mr. Padilla, aims to add a new section to the bill titled Department of Justice.
The amendment proposes two main changes:
-
It sets the amount appropriated to the Secretary of Homeland Security under section 203 at $2,000,000,000.
-
It appropriates $500,000,000 to the Attorney General for fiscal year 2026. These funds are to remain available until September 30, 2029, to create a process for compensating victims whose Federal constitutional or statutory rights were violated by Federal officers or agents during immigration enforcement activities, as well as to provide related compensation.
