What this amendment would do

SA 5777, submitted by Mr. Padilla, aims to add a section to the bill that prohibits the use of funds for deploying the United States Armed Forces for domestic law enforcement.

The amendment states that funds cannot be used for these purposes unless there is a written request from a State Governor (or the Mayor of the District of Columbia).
It also allows for deployment if chapter 13 of title 10, United States Code (the Insurrection Act) is invoked.
