What this amendment would do
This amendment, submitted by Mr. Padilla, aims to add a section regarding the terms and conditions for public-facing immigration enforcement activities funded by the Act.
The purpose is to ensure that officers and agents are clearly identified during these activities. Specifically, it adds requirements for:
-
Visible Identification: Officers must have an unobscured face (unless operational requirements dictate otherwise), the full name or recognized acronym of their agency, and their last name or unique badge/identification number.
-
Accountability: The Secretary of Homeland Security must ensure that officers who fail to comply face administrative discipline, such as suspension or written reprimands.
-
Reporting: The Secretary of Homeland Security must provide an annual report to specific House and Senate committees detailing the number of noncompliance instances and the actions taken.
