  • This amendment states that funds from the Act cannot be used to detain individuals unless U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection respond to inquiries from families, attorneys, or members of Congress.

  • These responses must be provided no later than 48 hours after an inquiry is made regarding the location of individuals held by those agencies or by contracted detention facilities.
