What this amendment would do
This amendment, submitted by Mr. Whitehouse and Mr. Padilla, aims to add a limitation on how federal funds are used.
The purpose is to stop federal funds, including those from the Judgment Fund, from being paid to a covered individual. A covered individual is someone convicted of assaulting a law enforcement officer during the events at or near the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
The amendment would block these payments if the claims are based on:
- Harm the individual allegedly suffered during the events at or near the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
- Prosecution for an offense related to those events.
