What this amendment would do
SA 5343, submitted by Mr. Booker, aims to add a section to S. Con. Res. 33 regarding a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to protecting public safety.
The purpose of this amendment is to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to adjust budget allocations, aggregates, and the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation related to protecting public safety.
Specifically, this may include ensuring Federal law enforcement agencies use limited resources to focus on:
- Violent crime
- Transnational criminal organizations
- Not low-level, nonviolence immigration offenses
This is provided that the legislation does not increase the deficit between fiscal years 2026 through 2035.
