What this amendment would do
SA 5260, submitted by Mr. Kim, aims to add a new section to title IV of S. Con. Res. 33. This resolution sets the budget for fiscal year 2026 and budgetary levels for 2027 through 2035.
The purpose of this amendment is to create a point of order in the Senate against reconciliation legislation that could adversely impact the right of women to vote. This includes:
- Voting provisions related to ballot access or voter registration.
- Legislation that creates barriers for women who changed their names due to marriage.
- Other obstacles that can be shown to impact eligible women voters.
To waive or suspend this point of order, or to sustain an appeal of the Chair's ruling, an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Members of the Senate is required.
