What this amendment would do

SA 5190, submitted by Ms. Warren, aims to add a section to title IV of the concurrent resolution S. Con. Res. 33.

The purpose of this amendment is to create a point of order in the Senate against any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, amendment between the Houses, or conference report that does the following:

  • Does not restrict the authority of the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to implement the proposed rule called "Housing and Community Development Act of 1980: Verification of Eligible Status."

  • Allows the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development to act in a way that is inconsistent with the legislative intent of section 214 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1980.

To waive or suspend this point of order, or to sustain an appeal of the Chair's ruling on it, an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Members of the Senate is required.
