What this amendment would do

SA 5024, submitted by Mr. HEINRICH, aims to add a section to title III of S. Con. Res. 33.

The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund to:

  • Increase educator pay at Bureau of Indian Education-funded schools.
  • Provide the Bureau of Indian Education with funding and resources to ensure students receive a high-quality education.

This would allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to adjust budgetary levels and the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation related to these goals, as long as the legislation does not increase the deficit between fiscal years 2026 through 2035.
