What this amendment would do
SA 4950, submitted by Mr. Van Hollen, is an amendment to S. Con. Res. 33. This resolution sets the congressional budget for fiscal year 2026 and budgetary levels for fiscal years 2027 through 2035.
The amendment aims to add a section regarding a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to data centers.
The purpose of this addition is to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to:
- Revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels.
- Make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for specific legislative items.
These actions apply to legislation intended to ensure that data centers supply their own energy to the grid and that ratepayers are not subsidizing the cost of data centers.
This is provided that the legislation does not increase the deficit for the total of fiscal years 2026 through 2035.
