What this amendment would do
SA 4946, submitted by Mr. Van Hollen, aims to add a section to title III of the concurrent resolution S. Con. Res. 33.
The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund for the oversight of the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security.
-
It allows the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to adjust budgetary levels and the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation related to oversight of Federal immigration enforcement agencies.
-
This may include requiring the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security to cooperate with and share evidence with State and local law enforcement agencies during investigations into the death or serious bodily harm of residents within those jurisdictions.
-
The amendment specifies that such legislation must not increase the deficit between fiscal years 2026 and 2035.
