What this amendment would do

SA 4933, submitted by Mr. Gallego, aims to add a section to title III of S. Con. Res. 33. This resolution sets the congressional budget for fiscal year 2026 and budgetary levels for fiscal years 2027 through 2035.

The purpose of this amendment is to establish a deficit-neutral reserve fund. This allows the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to adjust budgetary levels and the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation related to the integrity of Department of Justice investigations.

Specifically, this may include:

  • Prohibiting the use of funds for the investigation into Jerome Powell, the Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, by the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia.
  • Measures to ensure the proper administration of Department of Justice investigative functions.

This is provided that the legislation does not increase the deficit between fiscal years 2026 and 2035.
