What this amendment would do
SA 4866, submitted by Ms. ROSEN, aims to add a new section to the budget resolution (S. Con. Res. 33).
The purpose of this amendment is to create a point of order in the Senate. This means it would block the consideration of any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that does not prohibit Department of Homeland Security officers and agents from taking immigration enforcement actions within 1,000 feet of sensitive locations.
The specified sensitive locations include:
- Schools
- Medical facilities
- Places of worship
- Child care facilities
- Courthouses
To waive this rule or sustain an appeal of the Chair's ruling, an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Members of the Senate is required.
