What this amendment would do

SA 4843, submitted by Mr. Hickenlooper, aims to add a section to title III of the concurrent resolution S. Con. Res. 33.

The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund. This would allow the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to adjust budget allocations and the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation focused on lowering the prices of the following items that were increased by tariffs and the war in Iran:

  • Energy
  • Food
  • Medical equipment
  • Building materials
  • Automobiles

This is to be done by using all reliable and affordable technologies, as long as the legislation does not increase the deficit between fiscal years 2026 and 2035.
