What this amendment would do

SA 4224, submitted by Mr. Van Hollen, aims to add a section to title II of division A of bill H.R. 6938.

The purpose of this amendment is to require the Attorney General to keep, save, and gather all records or evidence concerning Jeffrey Epstein's investigation, prosecution, incarceration, and services provided to victims.

It also requires the Attorney General to provide a report to the Senate Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies within 60 days of the Act's enactment. This report must include:

  • The history of the Jeffrey Epstein case, including the 2008 non-prosecution agreement.
  • Testimony and victims, including notifications under the Crime Victims' Rights Act.
  • Investigations into co-conspirators and the current status of investigations into Epstein's trafficking and financial networks.
  • Findings of misconduct and internal reviews by the Department of Justice.
  • An intelligence assessment regarding Epstein's clients, financial ties, and any connections to foreign or United States governments.
  • Oversight failures at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York, New York.

The Attorney General is allowed to redact personally identifiable information and names of victims to protect their privacy.
