What this amendment would do
This amendment, submitted by Mr. Merkley, is intended to be added to bill H.R. 6938. Its purpose is to make a Wildfire Funding Adjustment.
The amendment aims to change and add the following to the bill:
-
Statutory Caps: It changes the date in the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985 from 2027 to 2037 and adds specific funding amounts for each fiscal year from 2028 through 2037, ranging from $4,610,000,000 in 2028 to $7,150,000,000 in 2037.
-
Budgetary Adjustments: It adds a section to the Congressional Budget Act of 1974 to allow for adjustments for wildfire suppression. These adjustments apply to discretionary spending limits, allocations to the Committees on Appropriations, and budget aggregates when funding is provided for wildfire suppression operations in the Wildland Fire Management accounts at the Department of the Interior or the Department of Agriculture.
-
Limits and Enforcement: It establishes that these adjusted limits and allocations will be used for congressional enforcement and sets maximum adjustment limits for each fiscal year from 2028 through 2037.
