S.Amdt. 4138

This amendment, submitted by Mr. Padilla and Ms. Klobuchar, aims to add a new section to H.R. 4016 regarding the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino.

The amendment intends to change or add the following:

• Location: It allows the museum to be located within the Reserve of the National Mall.

• Agency Coordination: It sets a process for when a site is under the jurisdiction of another federal agency. This includes notifying the head of that agency, notifying specific House and Senate committees, and transferring administrative jurisdiction to the Smithsonian Institution.

• Content and Perspectives: It requires the Board of Trustees to ensure exhibits and programs represent the varied cultures, histories, events, and values of Hispanic or Latino communities. The Board must use guidance from a broad array of knowledgeable and respected sources that reflect diverse political viewpoints and authentic experiences.

• Accountability: The Secretary of the Smithsonian must submit a report to various House and Senate committees every two years, starting 120 days after the act is enacted. This report must describe the actions taken to comply with the requirements for diversity of viewpoints and authentic experiences in the museum's programs and exhibits.
