What this amendment would do

Hey folks, let's look at what our elected officials are trying to do here. Mr. Kaine submitted an amendment, labeled SA 395, to the Senate concurrent resolution for the budget.

Purpose of the Amendment

  • The main goal of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund to the budget resolution.
  • It aims to stop the Department of Veterans Affairs from cutting its workforce down below the levels needed to properly staff, open, and provide services through new or remodeled facilities and service lines.
  • It allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise budget allocations and adjustments for legislation that prevents these workforce reductions, as long as that legislation does not increase the deficit from fiscal year 2025 through 2034.
