What this amendment would do
SA 3917, submitted by Mr. Cassidy, aims to add a new section titled Education Workforce and Training Programs to the bill.
The purpose of this amendment is to require the Secretary of Defense, via the Director of the Department of Defense Education Activity, to create education workforce and training programs in covered schools.
These programs are intended to:
- Implement STEM-based approaches, applied-learning, full immersion, and early intervention in core curricula for students in 6th through 9th grades.
- Use existing research data for development.
- Achieve measurable increases in employment success, graduation rates, and standardized test scores for these students.
For the purposes of this amendment, STEM means science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Covered schools are defined as public school systems serving children of Armed Forces members and elementary and secondary schools operated by the Department of Defense Education Activity.
