What this amendment would do

SA 3895, submitted by Mr. Booker, aims to add a new section (Section 334) to bill S. 2296. The purpose is to require the Secretary of Defense to report to congressional defense committees on how operations requested by the Secretary of Homeland Security for immigration enforcement impact military readiness.

  • The Secretary of Defense must provide an initial report within 180 days of the Act's enactment, with updates every 90 days.

  • The report must include details on Department of Defense installations used for immigration detention and removal, the demographics and disposition of detained individuals, and the number of military aircraft and personnel used for removal flights.

  • For individuals detained under section 284 of title 10, United States Code, the report must include the alleged link to transnational organized crime or drug activities.

  • The Secretary of Defense must assess how using military resources, personnel, and installations for these operations affects operational readiness.

  • This amendment does not grant any authority to support or engage in immigration enforcement.
