What this amendment would do
SA 3871, submitted by Mrs. Moody, aims to add a new section to the bill titled "Imposing, Maintaining, and Enforcing Sanctions with Respect to the International Criminal Court."
The purpose of this amendment is to:
-
Ensure that sanctions from Executive Order 14203 regarding the International Criminal Court stay in effect and have the force of law.
-
Require the President to impose, maintain, and enforce these sanctions against foreign persons.
-
Allow the President or Secretary of State to waive these sanctions for up to 180 days on a case-by-case basis, provided they report to congressional committees that the waiver is vital to United States national security interests.
-
Require specific details in waiver reports, including the reason for the waiver, the activity that led to the sanctions, and actions taken by the U.S. and the International Criminal Court to end efforts to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute protected persons.
