What this amendment would do

SA 3857, submitted by Ms. Lummis, is an amendment to SA 3748, which is part of bill S. 2296. The purpose of this amendment is to make changes to Title 31, United States Code, specifically regarding the management of financial assets.

The amendment aims to change the following in Section 324 of title 31:

  • It replaces the phrase "dispose of obligations" with "hold, manage, exchange, and dispose of financial assets".

  • It adds the word "accepted" before "acquired".

  • It replaces "the maturity of those obligations" with "the term or maturity, as applicable, of those financial assets".

  • It replaces "dispose or extend the maturity of obligations" with "exchange, dispose of, or extend the term or maturity, as applicable, of financial assets".

  • It updates the terms for what assets can be used for exchange, replacing "cash, obligations, property, or a combination of cash, obligations, or property" with "cash, other financial assets, other property, or any combination of cash, other financial assets, or other property".

  • It updates the section headings and the table of sections to read "Holding, managing, exchanging, disposing of, and extending the term of financial assets" instead of "Disposing and extending the maturity of obligations".
