What this amendment would do
SA 3817, submitted by Mr. Sheehy, aims to add a section regarding the continued operation of certain airports to bill S. 2296.
The purpose of this amendment is to ensure that any real property given by the United States under the Surplus Property Act of 1944 for use as an airport:
- Is considered a defense asset.
- Must stay open as a public airport.
- Cannot be permanently closed, disposed of, or turned into a non-airport use unless an Act of Congress specifically allows it.
The Secretary of Transportation and the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration are tasked with making sure these rules are followed.
