What this amendment would do
-
Ms. Cortez Masto, along with Ms. Alsobrooks and Mr. Kim, submitted amendment SA 374 to the Senate budget resolution for fiscal year 2025.
-
The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to lowering prescription drug prices.
-
It aims to allow the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to revise allocations and make adjustments for legislation that lowers prescription drug prices, as long as that legislation does not increase the deficit from fiscal year 2025 through 2034.
-
Specifically, the changes can include imposing monetary penalties on drug manufacturers for prescription drug sales in the commercial market if their average price increases faster than the rate of inflation, or implementing other policies that penalize drug manufacturers for increasing prices faster than inflation.
