What this amendment would do

SA 3678, submitted by Ms. Klobuchar and Mr. Rounds, aims to add a new section to bill S. 2296 regarding Special Immigrant Visas for certain relatives of certain members of the Armed Forces.

The amendment changes the Immigration and Nationality Act to provide visas for:

  • Citizens or nationals of Afghanistan who are the parent, brother, or sister of a member of the armed forces or a veteran.

The amendment adds the following rules for these visas:

  • A limit of 2,500 principal aliens may receive these visas each fiscal year.
  • If the yearly limit is not met, the remaining number carries over to the next fiscal year.
  • The total number of visas provided under this addition cannot exceed 10,000.
  • This authority starts on the date of enactment and ends when all visas are exhausted.
