What this amendment would do

SA 3541, submitted by Mr. Van Hollen, aims to change the Foreign Service Act of 1980.

The purpose of this amendment is to add a new provision regarding the adjustment of time in class for certain Foreign Service members.

Specifically, it adds that if a career member of the Foreign Service is not eligible for voluntary retirement or an immediate annuity, their time in class shall be extended for up to 2 years if it is needed to make them eligible for an immediate annuity.
