What this amendment would do
SA 3507, submitted by Mr. Lee and Mr. Curtis, aims to add a new section (Section 1067) to the end of subtitle F of title X of bill S. 2296.
The purpose of this amendment is to confirm that the use of approximately 593.54 acres of non-federal land in Salt Lake City, Utah, by the University of Utah is for a valid public purpose.
Specifically, it aims to add the following:
-
Confirmation that using the land as a University research park is a valid public purpose, based on a December 10, 1970, letter from the Secretary of the Interior and previous Department of the Interior approvals.
-
Confirmation that other uses consistent with a research park and university purposes, such as a transit hub and student housing, are also valid public purposes.
-
These confirmations are made consistent with the requirements of the Recreation and Public Purposes Act of June 14, 1926.
