SA 3465, submitted by Mr. Schiff, aims to add a new section to bill S. 2296 regarding Department of Defense food purchases.
The amendment requires the Secretary of Defense to ensure that the Department of Defense and its food service contractors meet specific dollar volume purchase minimums for the following categories:
- Organic food
- Food from producers within the State of final destination
- Food from small and mid-sized producers
The required minimums are 5 percent by October 1, 2028, and 10 percent by October 1, 2030.
