What this amendment would do

SA 3441, submitted by Mr. Lankford, aims to change how retired members of the armed forces are appointed to certain positions within the Department of Defense.

The amendment proposes the following changes to Section 3326 of title 5, United States Code:

  • It adds the word "certain" before "positions" in the section heading.

  • It updates subsection (b) to specify that the rules apply to those "appointed to a position in the excepted or competitive service classified at or above GS-14 of the General Schedule (or equivalent) in or under the Department of Defense."

  • It removes specific language in paragraph (1) that previously began with "for the purpose" and ended with "Management."

  • It updates the table of sections at the beginning of chapter 33 to reflect the new title: "Appointments of retired members of the armed forces to certain positions in the Department of Defense."
