What this amendment would do

This amendment, submitted by Mr. Lankford, aims to add a new section regarding Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft to bill S. 2296.

The purpose of the amendment is to:

  • Limit E-3 Aircraft Reductions: It prohibits the Air Force from using fiscal year 2026 funds to retire, store, or put into backup inventory any E-3 aircraft if it would drop the total inventory below 16.

  • Provide Exceptions: The limit on E-3 aircraft reductions does not apply if the Secretary of the Air Force submits a plan to congressional defense committees to maintain readiness and mission capabilities, or if enough E-7 Wedgetail aircraft are procured and delivered to handle the required mission load.

  • Protect the E-7 Program: It mandates that funds for the E-7 Wedgetail aircraft program be used only for their authorized purposes and cannot be reprogrammed or transferred. It also prohibits using funds to pause, cancel, or terminate the E-7 Wedgetail aircraft program.
