What this amendment would do
SA 3439, submitted by Mr. Lankford, aims to add a new section to bill S. 2296 regarding the E-3 Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft.
The purpose of this amendment is to stop the Air Force from using fiscal year 2026 funds to retire, prepare for retirement, or store E-3 aircraft if those actions would bring the total inventory below 16 aircraft.
There are two exceptions to this prohibition:
-
The Secretary of the Air Force submits a plan to congressional defense committees to maintain readiness and ensure no lapse in mission capabilities (the prohibition ends 30 days after submission).
-
The Secretary of the Air Force procures and receives delivery of enough E-7 Wedgetail aircraft to handle the required mission load.
