What this amendment would do
SA 3437, submitted by Mr. Sheehy, aims to change the Justice for United States Victims of State Sponsored Terrorism Act.
The purpose of this amendment is to update how remaining amounts in the lump sum catch-up payment reserve fund are handled:
-
The Special Master must authorize payments to specific victims for amounts that were offset by payments received in the case of Peterson v. Islamic Republic of Iran.
-
Any other remaining amounts in the reserve fund, including accrued interest, must be deposited into the Fund.
-
If the reserve fund balance was already transferred before the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026 is enacted, the required payments will come from the Fund.
