What this amendment would do

SA 3254, submitted by Ms. Murkowski, aims to add a section to bill S. 2296 regarding the disinterment of the remains of Michael Alan Silka from the Sitka National Cemetery in Alaska.

The amendment requires the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to take the following actions:

  • Disinter the remains within one year after the Act is enacted.
  • Notify the next of kin before the disinterment takes place.
  • Relinquish the remains to the next of kin, or if no one responds to the notification, arrange for disposition as the Secretary determines appropriate.
