What this amendment would do
SA 3226, submitted by Mr. Barrasso, aims to change the Better Utilization of Investments Leading to Development Act of 2018 by adding a new section regarding power-generation projects in specific countries.
The purpose of this amendment is to:
-
Stop restrictions on the source of energy used by power-generation projects intended to provide affordable electricity in IDA-eligible or IDA-blend countries. This means the Corporation cannot use rules, policies, or guidelines to prohibit or restrict the energy source.
-
Limit the Board, preventing them from rejecting a power-generation project in these countries based on the energy source used.
-
Promote an "all-of-the-above" strategy for energy development in these countries. This strategy is fuel-neutral and technology-neutral, including sources such as:
- Oil
- Natural gas
- Coal
- Hydroelectric
- Wind
- Solar
- Geothermal power and other energy sources.
