What this amendment would do
Mr. Heinrich, along with Mr. Hickenlooper, submitted amendment SA 2729 to be proposed to another amendment for the bill H.R. 1. If we want to hold our elected officials accountable, we need to look at what they are trying to change with our tax dollars and the rules they set for people applying for government programs.
What the Amendment Changes
-
No Reapplication Needed: The amendment aims to make sure that people who have already applied for loan guarantees do not have to reapply because of changes made by the Act or any new rules that come from it. It instructs the Secretary to use administrative flexibilities to consider current applicants.
-
New Funding Added: It adds an appropriation of $1,000,000,000 to the Secretary for fiscal year 2025 to carry out these activities, which will remain available through September 30, 2028.
-
Administrative Costs Limit: Out of that one billion dollars, the Secretary is not allowed to use more than 3 percent for administrative expenses.
