What this amendment would do

MR. REED submitted amendment SA 2642 to provide $1,000,000,000 in additional funding to the Secretary of Health and Human Services for fiscal year 2026. This money will stay available until it is spent.

The purpose of this funding is to carry out the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Act of 1981. It aims to help low-income households pay for the higher energy costs that are expected to be caused by the bill, and to provide enough staff for the Department of Health and Human Services to oversee how the money is distributed.
