What this amendment would do
Mr. Wyden and Mr. Merkley put forward amendment SA 2592 to the bill H.R. 1. If we want to hold our officials accountable, we need to know where the money goes. This amendment is all about making sure that funds collected from certain timber sales actually get shared properly based on existing laws.
What It Aims to Change and Add
The amendment adds specific rules for how money from certain timber sale contracts must be distributed:
-
For sales under section 50302(a)(3), 25 percent of the money that goes into the general fund of the Treasury must be distributed following the Forest Reserve Revenue Act of 1908.
-
For sales under section 50302(b)(3) on specific lands, the money raised must be distributed following the Act of August 28, 1937 or the Act of May 24, 1939.
