What this amendment would do
Mr. Lee submitted amendment SA 2552 to allow certain folks to contribute to health savings accounts.
Specifically, the amendment allows individuals who are entitled to part A of Medicare by reason of age to contribute to health savings accounts. It also deals with the treatment of health insurance purchased from the account, coordinates penalties on distributions not used for qualified medical expenses, and makes a conforming amendment.
Purpose and Changes
The purpose of this change is to update section 223 of the law to add entitlement to hospital insurance benefits under part A of title XVIII of the Social Security Act by reason of section 226(a) of such Act as a new clause.
These changes are set to apply to months beginning after December 31, 2025.
